History
The Elmina Castle is situated in Elmina, near Cape Coast, a town in the Central Region of Ghana. the castle was originally built by the Portuguese for trade purposes in ivory, timber and gold. It will however interest you to know that, this castle was later transformed to serve as a dungeon for slave trade.
These dungeons still remain the most outstanding reminders of the slave trade age which has gradually lingered on in other forms over the period till date even though the dungeons no longer serve this purpose.
